Blushing Blooms Guest Interview: Chandra of Oh Lovely Day wedding blog

Welcome to Chandra of the Oh Lovely Day blog! Blushing Blooms is delighted to feature this interview with Chandra, a ‘famed’ wedding blogger and a California girl who has a real eye for beautiful finer details and special, stylish touches.

Chandra’s blog is delicious – packed with creative ideas, pretty wedding elements and brimming with inspiration for all styles of brides. A recent re-design launched just last week has seen it look even more beautiful than when we first met Chandra earlier this year – congratulations on such an amazing new site! We know all the Blushing Blooms brides and blog followers are going to be over-the-moon with the abundance of ideas, inspiration and gorgeous details you have to share.

In her words, Chandra told us of her blogging journey “I’ve always loved weddings, pretty paper goods, and DIY projects, but my wedding but that love into overdrive.  Once it was over I realized I had lots of ideas left over and wanted to share with other brides how you could have a beautiful and special wedding without breaking the bank.  My motto is “It’s in the details!”  I think if you pick a style, theme, or just one thing and use it throughout your wedding from your save the dates, to your escort cards, menus, and decor people will notice and see how much effort you spent, not how much money.  For my wedding it was casual elegance with a vintage feel and I used lace and antique things like keys and mason jars and a monogram on all of my paper goods.  And for brides that want to DIY, just pick a few projects rather than DIY’ing the whole wedding so you don’t get overwhelmed.  I had lots of DIY projects in my wedding (in fact, my maid of honor and I designed every piece of paper associated with my wedding and even started an etsy shop as a result) and they were not only labors of love that I was so happy to see incorporated into our wedding, but they are the things our guests loved as well.  Just make your wedding “you” rather than what someone else has done or what you think others think it should be, and you’ll have yourselves a lovely day!”

Today, Oh Lovely Day is a bible for brides not just from Chandra’s own backyard, Los Angeles, but for the whole world!

At Blushing Blooms we love the Oh Lovely Day blog – not only a source for all things divine and swoon-worthy but as a great reference for us (as Australian florists) on international trends. For our own Aussie brides please head on over there and see what is on offer – we know you will simply love it.

You can visit the Oh Lovely Day blog as well as follow Oh Lovely Day on Facebook and Twitter.

So, here is a little taste of Oh Lovely Day – and the gorgeous Chandra –  and then you can find our interview below…happy reading!

BB: Firstly – where are you located? (Or what area do you cover mostly in the blog?)

Chandra {Oh Lovely Day} I am located in Los Angeles, CA, but I feature weddings, ideas, and lovely things from all over the world.

BB: What do you see as the emerging trends for flowers and event design in (your area) at the moment?

Chandra {Oh Lovely Day} Well, I’m not a floral designer so I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but as someone who sees a lot of weddings and florals I think lush feminine hand tied bouquets are quite popular right now.  Also, bouquets with interesting contrasts and textures, like those including succulents, are quite popular here in Southern California.  I also think we are going to start to see more one bouquets that are all one type of flower (like all baby’s breath, all lavender, all peonies, etc.) and more monochromatic bouquets (all white flowers, all green florals, etc.).

BB: What is your favourite wedding flowers / floral design you have ever featured on your blog and why?

Chandra {Oh Lovely Day}I have featured A LOT of bouquets and wedding florals on my blog.  I even did a bouquet roundup of lots of different bouquets, but I think my favorite bouquet and florals ever featured was from this post.  The colors and the texture are so pretty, so feminine, so my style.

Side note from BB: Here is Chandra’s round up, if you are looking for bridal bouquet ideas, click on over via the image (to see full size shots) as its fab!

BB: What is your own dream bouquet?

Chandra {Oh Lovely Day} My dream bouquet was my own wedding bouquet, if peonies had been in season.  I love peonies and they went out of season just a couple of weeks before my wedding.  I still loved my bouquet though because my florist was able to use garden roses and dahlias to make it fluffy and feminine and just what I had dreamed of.
